DIY Alcohol Ink Accessories

My last post was about using alcohol ink on dominoes. What I didn't write about was how you can make some of the accessories that go along with the alcohol inks.

One of the accessories you use is this stamping "thingy"...

While preparing to teach a class on making Domino pendants and alcohol ink, I was worried about the cost involved if I had to purchase one of these for each person. So, I decided I could make something that would work just as well.

I had my husband cut some wood that we already had into pieces that are the same size as the block of wood on the stamper.

The stamper that I had purchased was covered in what appeared to be something like the rough side of velcro. So, I bought some sticky back velcro pads and stuck the rough side to the blocks.

The stamper that I purchased came with a few white pads
that you attach to the stamper and add ink to.  It seemed to be nothing more than felt. So, I bought a 25cent piece of white felt and cut it into lots of pieces that would fit the stamper.

My homemade version of the stamper works just as well as the original one I bought!

Here are a few pictures from the class...

  1. Looks like super fun! i will definitely make my own pads next time i need them. Did you think of adding a plastic bottle cap as a handle - I do this for handmade stamps.

  4. Virginia, I have that Tim Holtz tool and I thought that I could easily cut pieces of felt or warm and natural instead of buying the replacement pads. Great way to save money by making your own. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
